Bathelona Report:

" We had a bare 11 plus our very own special Mark Samwell for a cup game against one of our regulars opposition, Golden Hill. A strong team was put on the pitch by both teams but any injuries in the Bathelona camp might cause a problem. The game started in wet weather with a good tempo played by both teams. Chances came at either end early on with Angus hitting the crossbar for Bathelona and Rob called into a beautiful save diving to his left. The pitch was flat but uneven in parts with fresh mown grass scattered throughout, this made playing our regular football of quick short passes difficult, where as the long ball was easy. We lost one of our players (Grant) through injury on 20 mins. This followed a challenge that left him coughing up blood. This then led to the 54 year old, Mark Samwell, coming off the bench. The game became a little stretched and they made it count in their favour and within a couple of minutes they got awarded a penalty that wasn't. They scored and then for 5 mins the game went a little bit Pete-Tongue for us and they went in at half time 3-0 up. Something needed to change and we decided to change our system and play 3-5-2. A burst of energy was injected into the second half and we got one back from a lovely Steve strike. 3-1. Unfortunately they kept hitting us on the counter and soon got the score to 4-1. We didn’t give up though and on 70 mins we got another goal back through a Toby cracker. 4-2. Then on 80 mins we got another back following a corner Lee firing it hard home. 4-3 We could feel opportunities coming and on 90 minutes that man Toby nailed a beauty over the keeper to make it 4-4. The ref blew his whistle to end what was a very intense end to end match. It was decided to take the game to penalties and it was all square after 5 pens each. Unfortuantely they scored their 6th but we missed ours. Even though we got knocked out of the cup it was a great game and a superb team effort to keep coming back again and again. There were plenty of people to pick from for Man of the Match but after this game, with some quite extraordinary saves we give this weeks MOM to - Rob Lucas Well done everyone."
