"An entertaining cup match played in a great sport which Nailsea came out winners. an own goal and a wonder goal were the difference in the 2 sides. Wish Nails well in the cup."
Nailsea Vets 45's Report:
" Cup quarter final. For long periods there wasn't much to separate the two teams but Nailsea slightly dominated possession in the first half as the Axbridge keeper was tested on several occasions. The deadlock was broken right on the stroke of half time as the ball fell to Mark Evans just inside the 18 yard area who fired in a shot on target towards the centre of the goal. A wicked deflection off an Axbridge player helped the ball find the top corner. Nailsea made a few injury forced changes at half time and came out to dominate again for the first 20 minutes with more chances on goal. The Axbridge keeper played a blinder to maintain their deficit to just one goal. Axbridge began to force the play in the last quarter of the game and Lee McGreevy in goal for Nailsea made several great stops to prevent Axbridge domination being rewarded. The game was won with 10 minutes to go; against the run of play Gary Himsworth ran onto the ball on the right side and from 25 yards out chanced a long range shot which looped over the Axbridge keeper, brushing the underside of the bar as it found the net. (Already a contender for goal of the season). A great team performance with everyone working hard for one another but Mark Forbes stood out with a storming game at right back for Nailsea with solid defending and attacking runs down the flanks but we'll see how voting goes for man of the match. Another game played in a good spirit with both teams properly respecting the ruling on age limits. "
