Match Reports

LB Vets Report;

"last game of the season on a hot sunny day at the Imperial Ground. We had 12 with Alex coming along for the team photo (again). Nailsea were a tough side, particularly good in the air and the first 15 was pretty even. We got the opening goal when an ambitious Nailsea throw in was intercepted by Alex, who interchanged with Benno and then scuffed a shot under the keeper for 1-0. Shortly after Hooky was through behind the defence, went around the keeper but appeared to be brought down in the box, even the tackler seemed surprised that the ref waved play on. We defended well and held our lead until the half. Plenty of water taken on at the half and off we went again. The first 10 was again pretty even but then Nailsea got the equaliser when we were sloppy at the back allowing them a shot on goal which our keeper parried(Im being kind there Del) and the forward stabbed in from a yard out. Parity was short lived as good play up our left put Benno away and he turned a defender before slotting in from a narrow angle. With 15 to go Nailsea broke down our right and a quick one-two put the forward away in the box, Rob tried to tackle but was adjudged to foul (he doesnt get his tackling ability from his brother) with Nailsea equalising from the spot with a well taken pen into the corner. Yet again we regained our advantage very quickly with Hoky putting Benno through who made no mistake from the edge of the box for 3-2. We had a few other chances as Nailsea pushed forward and then Rob atoned for the pen by hitting a rip snorter from 25 yards into the top corner (he definitely doesnt get his shooting ability from his brother!!!) We held out to finish the season on a high and confirm 3rd place. Nailsea were a good bunch of lads, with the game played in a great spirit. We had a few sherberts at the side of the pitch to recover and then joined the Nailsea boys at a local hostelry to bask in the sun and take on more refreshments. Thanks to all the LB lads for their efforts this season and we look forward to meeting Nailsea again next year!"

Nailsea Vets Report:

" We were unsure if we could fulfil this fixture as injuries and kids tournaments has meant we had to pull in 4 from our over 45's and use a 32 year old which we told LB about and they were fine about it. It evened up due to the 56, 53, 52 and 51 year olds We started quite brightly but we had to set up defensively due to a severe lack of pace in our team !! A disastrous throw in gave LB the chance to take the lead and they took it well. Our normal GK Darren Penny had a game outfield and equalised to make his day! LB took the lead which didn't last long as we won a pen after some good play down the left. It was a clear pen and Andy Iles made no mistake for his 5th of the season. LB should have had a pen but the ref decided against it ( always worth giving the ref a tenner at the start of the game ) LB then played some good football as our oldies legs tired and scored a couple of goals late on to take a 4-2 win. Its looking like we might finish 4th or 5th which for our first year in the 1st isn't too bad. Thanks to LB for the game - top bunch of lads and we look forward to the game next year."
