Easton Monday Report:

" Team selection saw a few modifications due to availability and injury as Luka Modric commented “…the first 5mins are a bit of a blur, but I did eventually recover from the shock of being put up front!”  The game was evenly contested for the first fifteen until amiss hit pass from Trojans become a good pass and they beat the offside trap too score and go one up. The Trojans were a very organised, skilful side who pressed well all over the park, as Modric observed “They were a tidier team than they looked but we played into their hands by not getting close enough on their first touch or to each other to get our passing going Monday then  coughed up possession on edge of our own box, twice more in rapid succession to go into halftime down 0-3. In the words of player co-manager Maldini “I had a shocker! Suddenly What could have been an even game became a mountain to climb.” The three early unanswered giveaway goals totally deflated the Blues who struggled to get their passing game together. The defensive shape also struggled and lost the ball too often in their own half that meant building attacks were hampered. There was one really nice move through Bart and Iniesta that ended with their keeping pushing Modric’s effort away. That was a sign of how the Blues can play when they get their passing game together. Half time saw several changes with Bart coming off for Rooney (returning from injury) who went on up with Modric dropping back into midfileld. Maldini, having a bad day at the office also subbed himself.. Trojans scored within a minute from kick off, 4-0. Monday keeper Pickford questioned if it was offside. After that the oppositions dominated but the Blues fought really well given the score and got a deserved goal for their efforts when Franco Baresi pulled one back off a corner. Stanley Matthews came on came on and got past his marker well resulting in 3-4 times three good crosses creating a couple of decent chances for Suarez. Beckenbauer also came on for Pearce at the back. Modric came close with an effort that hit crossbar then late on in the last minute Trojans scored with a ball over the top 5-1. In his post-match interview co-manager Maldini commented “We have now played the top 3 in the league so hopefully can keep positive for the next games.” Centre back Harry Maguire added “In the words of Jon Bon Jovi we need to keep the faith. These last few teams we’ve played give no time on the ball, and we haven’t been able to get into a passing game. They press all over the pitch which means we have struggled to keep the ball in all areas, but we absolutely need to try to play. The alternative is to go long and give them the ball back which we don’t wanna do!!!” To sum up, Modric told reporters “I think the biggest difference this season is our confidence has really dropped off. If we can get back to keeping a nice shape, moving and talking a lot more then we can get back winning.” "
