"Lyde Green Vets made it 2 from 2 in the league as they secured an 8-0 win over Fairfield Allstars. Lyde took a bit of time to settle in this one and spent the early parts of the match panicking which allowed Fairfield to go close with the first effort of the match. Luckily, the decision of the Fairfield keeper to pick up a back pass allowed Lyde a chance to score which Huba took from 6 yards. This helped Lyde settle and Craig D got his standard headed goal from Colin’s cross before Colin himself got on the scoresheet. Martin bagged 2 before the half, either side of a decent spell for Fairfield before he smashed a penalty against the crossbar. The only casualty of the first half was our new match ball which hit a tree and popped!
The second half was pretty stretched as we seemed to be playing with a front 6 and a back 5 at times. Fairfield gave it a good go and the Lyde defence had to keep on their toes. There were no goals in the second half for quite some time but eventually, Ian grabbed the goal his performance deserved before the Fairfield full back rifled one into his own net (Craig D is not claiming it!). Martin grabbed his third to complete the hat trick (from how many chances?) before getting nailed and ending the afternoon in A & E (just a sprain mate, could have run it off!!). There was time for Fairfield to get a penalty of their own after Bennett’s cynical foul but the lad whacked it wide.
Good stuff all round again despite not really being at our best, but for a bunch of lads who’d never met 3 months ago, it isn’t going too badly!!"
Fairfield Allstars Report:
" We were outclassed by a fast and skillful Lyde Green team, who thoroughly deserved the result."
