"Poor officiating and a couple of keeper bloopers cost us the match . Both sides looked even in the first half with chances being created . Having gone behind to a cross/slice / shot that was pushed into the net from the Filton keeper we hit back with some good attacking play and had a certain penalty waved away after a rather shall we shall high challenge on the Filton striker . Then another bad challenge on the same striker , funnily enough from the same defender led to a free kick on the edge of the Lyde box and the resulting kick took a deflection hit the post and bounced back into the danger zone for a Filton player to hit home , must of been a good 20
Seconds and seemed like in slow mo once the ball had been tucked away , however the flag happy Lino wanted to grab the headlines and the goal much to the suprise of the entire 22 players on the pitch was disallowed then within iminutes we were 0-2 down when a trickled shot squirmed through the hands, legs, shoelaces , gloves, water bottle of our keeper and into the net . This knocked the team back and from then on the uphill task was too much. On another day score line could have been different but onwards to the the next game ."
Lyde Green Veterans Report:
" Filton Vets 0-5 Lyde Green FC
A cold morning standing in a field beckoned for Lyde Green's finest, but the form shown in 2017 was well and truly taken into the first game of the New Year.
The morning was to get off to a bad start when star striker Jon had to withdraw from the squad as he was too tired from pulling a babestation all nighter. However, morale was quickly boosted when Tokes also withdrew himself from the team.
A fairly even 1st half saw both teams have chances to score but it was the Stags who were comfortably in front at the break. The first goal of the game came after some good build up play finished off with a sliced effort from Carter that forced the Filton keeper into palming the ball into his own net. 1-0. Filton were to almost pull level after a terrible tackle on the edge of the box saw a free kick hit the bar and turned in by a Filton player, only for an even worse offside flag to rule the goal out. Cheers Jim!
The 2nd LG goal was coming and it wasn't long before Huba found himself free in the box and managed to hit the weakest shot at goal I've ever seen, fumbled into the net by the keeper. 2-0! The 3rd was to come before half time, but not before a dreadful tackle by Dan almost saw the ref give a penalty to the home team. Thankfully it wasnt given, and Yan notched the 3rd by doing something or other that I can't remember.
The 2nd half was scrappy with a few tasty challenges going in from both teams, seeing Dan picking up a booking for another terribly timed tackle. But, total sexy football resumed with Mike 'Babyface' Hall finishing off a great team move with a cheeky back heel into the bottom corner, bettered later in the half by a 25 yard side footer into the top corner from club heartthrob, Craig D. 5-0!
However... it could and should have been 6, and any match report would not be compete without mentioning possibly the worst miss in park football history. Martin, take a bow. Lashing the ball over the bar from 1 yard. At best 1 yard. Probably less than a yard. Wooooosh!
Other notable things from the day -
- Nathan can't navigate
- Dan still thinks 'be there by 10' means 'be there by 1025'
- Crag P still unable to get a long shot on target
- Phil's ass-ist
- Ben's suitcase
- Huba's face after being fine £7
Well done, boys
