"Jim Banton had 13 and a half players today against a well drilled strong Chew team.
Barely started well with some success down the right wing with Gareth Scott and Trimble forcing several corners and crosses into the box but it was Chew that struck first with a well worked goal from midfield where Barelys defence went awol.
This sparked Barely into life and once again we forced Chew into some desperate blocks with one loose ball falling to Batts on the edge of the box who drilled it low around defender and keeper. Minutes later he took an elbow to the ribs which ended his game but Jim Banton came on and played his usual composed game
At half time Jim made changes bringing on Bob and Geoff the later for his first appearance in Barely colours. Unfortunately Barely began to run out of ideas and the mom combo of Scott and Kevin Dobbins had more work to do as Chew began to turn the screw. Their number 14 scored with a plum shot with 15 to go and Chew relaxed in the knowledge that Barely wouldn't score again. And apart from a Dobbins header which was well saved they were right. 2.1 Chew"
Chew Magna 45's Report:
" Chew started strongly and camped in the Barely half, before Smith struck a sweet shot into the top right hand corner. This galvanised Barely, who now took over the control of the game and Chew were pushed back on the defensive, not helped by an injury to keeper Keen. Barely deservedly equalised with a fine low drive. At half time Chew reorganised their back line which settled things down and the Chew midfield began to get the upper hand. Chew created chances and then Lewis calmly slotted in what turned out to be the winner. Chew then soaked up the Barely pressure, and a fine save for Keen got them over the line"
