"A well fought contest with both teams evenly matched. Barely scored with a penalty and almost got a second when Kevin's curling shot just went wide. A misjudged bounce allowed the Nailsea attacker Lee one shot which he took very well placing it just inside the far post. 1.1 good battle as always. Played in the right spirit throughout. "
Nailsea Vets 45's Report:
" The introduction of two new players Eammon and Lee C helped us to field a decent squad when it looked as though we might have been struggling with a bare 11 earlier in the week. As it was we still struggled to get going in miserable wet conditions; unable to keep the ball and giving it away far too easily. Despite this the battles were largely contained within midfield with neither keeper being tested early on. After 20 minutes Nailsea began to find their passing game and created a few chances, notably a couple by Jerry – a strong header from a whipped in cross by Munch on the right and a close-range shot pushed round the post by the Barely keeper. The first half remained scoreless.
Lee C came on up front for Nailsea in the second half and his first touch was a shot on the turn easily saved by the keeper. The contest remained relatively even, both keepers having slightly more to do to keep the score sheet goalless. A player from each team had to leave the pitch through injury as Barely No 4 and Hendo clashed in a sliding tackle. This forced changes with Jerry coming back on in centre mid to support the attack and this was working well until Barely broke the deadlock halfway through the second half when a penalty was awarded for an indisputable handball. Nailsea did well to continue pushing forwards trying to play good passing football. A well-deserved equaliser came after Munch fired a long ball forwards for Lee C who was first to react on the edge of the box, initially taking it wide but then spinning and shooting into the far-left hand corner.
In the last minutes Carlos came close to nicking all the points with a delightful curling shot that just fell wide of the far post. On balance however, a draw was a fair result in a game both teams would have been disappointed to lose.
