Nailsea Vets 45's Report;

"Strange game. Apart from one incident early in the first half when Nailsea’s Alex P reacted to a scrape down the back of his ankle (which was more accidental than in any way malicious by the Recliners player) there wasn’t really any reason for his game to get niggly and yet there was an undercurrent throughout the game that felt as though it might blow up. Russ – accept your apology for your comment which seemed out of character but really surprised me because there was no nastiness, dangerous play or bad language, just a bit too much moaning for which both sides were equally guilty. Anyhow the football - The first half started with Nailsea passing well and keeping the ball. Just after Recliners had started to play themselves into the game Nailsea opened the scoring on 11 minutes with a wonder strike from Darren Jones. Easily a contender for goal of the season; 25 plus yards out in the centre of the pitch he saw the Recliners keeper off his line and fired in a powerful dipping strike. Recliners remained positive and they continued to grow in confidence with plenty of possession and then on 16 minutes against the run of play Nailsea’s Lee Philipps found Lee Cogan wide on the right who put in a perfect low cross to Alex who fired in from 10 yards out with his first touch. 2-0 flattered us and Recliners always looked threatening particularly their No 10 up front. No surprise that they pulled one back on 25 minutes and then levelled the score 5 minutes later. Credit to Nailsea for not folding under the pressure and with 10 minutes of the first half remaining Lee C played Darren J through into the penalty area. As he shaped up to shoot, he was bundled over by Recliners defender for a clear penalty. Lee C stepped up to drill home the spot kick and take us in at half time with the lead restored. Recliners dominated much of the second half and generally looked fitter as Nailsea legs tired but solid Nailsea defending limited further chances on goal. Both sides did have chances to add to the score were it not for two great saves. Lee Mc smothered a shot from Recliners No 10 who was through 1 on 1 and Recliners keeper finger tipped Lee Cogan’s fierce drive away diving at full stretch low to his left. Unusual not to see Recliners back at Sawyers for a beer – just hope it was only because there wasn’t food being served today! "

Recliners FC Report:

" A well contested game. Some good football played by both sides intermittently. Recliners started brightly and were unlucky to fall behind following a clever long range chip over the keeper. Recliners fell further behind a few minutes later as they failed to deal with a cross following a good break down the right flank. Good work in the box from Bob Melville ended in his shot being parried by the keeper, straight to Sharpie who passed the ball into the net from 6 yards to pull one back for Recliners. Sharpie drew the sides level five minutes later capitalising from a rare moment of hesitation in the Nailsea back line to smash in from 20 yards. Fortunes reversed again only a few minutes later however, when the Recliners back line got pulled out of shape and ended up conceding a penalty, which was duly converted to put Nailsea 3-2 up. Recliners probably had the better of the play and chances in the second half, but failed to add to the scoring. Nailseas match report is spot on, except regards their strikers attitude being a singular incident. Top marks for removing him after he blew a second unnecessary fuse - that seemed to do the trick when he came back on. Good luck for rest of season "
