"A hard fought game which went on for what seemed an age before Chew broke the deadlock. Russell struggled to contain the Chew midfield, forever feeling outnumbered. Still at half-time it was just 0-1 and we had the hill. At this point i forget if Chew had a second goal before our goalkeeper was sent off. Quite rightly getting his marching orders for swearing at the Ref. From then on down to 10 men it was containment which inevitably didnt quite work and hence Chew bagging 2 more goals.
Just want to mention that when it was unclear what the goalie had said to the Ref, the Chew players demonstrated what i would call a love of the game of football by asking if the Ref could be lenient and leave the goalie on so we might jointly (Russell & Chew Magna) have a better more contested game. "
Chew Magna 45's Report:
" Chew put in a strong performance from the kick-off, and kicking downhill in the first half, controlled the game, creating several chances, and restricting Russell to very few attempts on goal. The pressure paid off and Lewis, after holding off a couple of defenders calmly slotted in the first goal. Chew should have been two up by half time but missed another penalty, after being turned away from this one Chew Skipper Molter has ear-marked the next one for himself.
Chew had a large squad on the day, and they all played their part as the subs, slotted into their roles and rotated effectively ensuring Chew continued to play confident football and control the match. An unfortunate incident after half time saw the Russell goalkeeper sent off, which put Russell firmly on the back foot. But until the second goal they battled hard, and it was a lovely shot from Smith in off the post which finally gave Chew a comfortable margin. They then added to this with another Lewis goal, and then finally Bryant lashed one into the net after a goal area scramble. The game was played in great spirit, and some friendly banter in the Bar afterwards.
