"Cilycoed come into the game full of confidence as a good start to season.. game was switched to 3G pitch due to heavy rain.
Cilycoed started with a 4.5.1 formation for this game today – Showing respect to LB Vets midfield as we remember they were really good last season.
Cilycoed started the game really well passing the ball around nicely taking advantage of the large 3G pitch, There was a few minor chances but was very cagey start to the game.
It was not until around the 35 minute mark when Cilycoed finally broke the deadlock and was deserved – Lovely move started from Tony Jones at left back who inturn passed to Steve Lane on the left and then feed a drilled cross which Babsey completed a lovely bit of skill to back heal the ball to Jason Cave who fired a low and hard shot into the corner.
Half Time 1.0
Cilycoed started 2nd half the same way - Controlling the game – There was a few mistakes that could have let LB vets back into the game but Jamie Green at the back was solid as ever – New partnership with Stu wood has really started to make Cilycoed more solid at back.
Cilycoed made there pressure count with a well taken goal from Steve Lane – He was able to “NutMeg” the right back and was able smartly pass the ball past the oncoming goalkeeper to make it 2.0… Unfortunately I think LB heads dropped a little after this but they kept plugging away and working hard which is a credit to their manager.
Cilycoeds 2rd goal was slightly fortuitous as Paul Tanner crossed a looping ball in a difficult area for goalkeeper who sadly diverted it into his net.. very unlucky.
Game really changed then and there was a lot of passing and playing ball side to side without really looking dangerous.
Game was well played and Ref was really good – Entertaining on side-line talking to the lads on both teams.. Good Luck LB for rest of season..
Cilycoed Man of Match – Jamie Green covered and composure on the ball and looked comfortable all game."
LB Vets Report:
" Always knew it was going to be a tough start to the season with an away (again) trip over the bridge to Coed. Fixture made even tougher due to LB being without four key players. We started with debutant Rich at left back, hugely hung over Ollie left mid and the unlikely but exciting (ummmm) partnership of Hookie and Pete up front. Coed took control from the start, the extra man in their midfield showing, but we kept it tight and limited them to long range shots. We even managed to create a couple of decent chances but our final pass and decision making let us down. Just before half time from our throw in near their box, they broke and the big bald central midfielder strolled down the middle of the park untracked to cooly slot in. Doh. Second half couldn’t of started worse, 15 seconds in a spinning ball evaded a couple of our defenders and the Coed chap somehow found himself one on one with our keeper and slotted home. Double doh. We went to 3 5 2 and matched them in the middle, but as the game went on our heads started to drop and near the end their winger crossed the ball for a bit of ping pong with our keeper and the cross bar before it dropped over the line. Doh doh doh. Disappointed as we didn’t play our usual game, but Coed were the better side on the day. Good luck to them, they will do well this season and hopefully see you at our place next season."
